Fubara Reacts to Tinubu’s Emergency Rule in Rivers, Calls for Calm

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reacted to the declaration of a state of emergency in the state, urging residents to remain calm and law-abiding.

In a press statement, Fubara emphasized that his actions as governor were always guided by his constitutional oath of office and a commitment to the well-being of the people. He highlighted his administration’s focus on protecting lives, ensuring progress, and upholding the rule of law, even amid political tensions.

He recalled the peace initiative brokered by President Bola Tinubu, stating that his government had implemented the agreed terms in good faith, including reinstating commissioners who had resigned. Additionally, he noted that his administration promptly complied with the Supreme Court’s judgment to restore normalcy in the state.

However, Fubara accused the Rivers State House of Assembly of frustrating efforts to achieve peace and stability. Despite political disagreements, he insisted that governance had continued effectively, with salaries paid, developmental projects executed, and security maintained across the state.

Reassuring the people of Rivers, Fubara pledged to engage with relevant institutions to uphold democracy and ensure the state’s continued progress. He called on residents to remain steadfast, expressing confidence that Rivers would overcome the challenges with wisdom and resilience.

“Rivers State is safe, secure, and peaceful under our watch,” he stated, urging citizens to have faith in the democratic process.
