Enugu Government to Investigate, Arrest Illegal Revenue Taskforce
The Enugu State Government has vowed to investigate and arrest individuals involved in illegal revenue collection from scavengers under the guise of a taskforce.
Speaking in Enugu on Tuesday, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, condemned the activities of the unauthorized group and assured that those responsible would face legal consequences.
Onyia clarified that while a committee had been established through his office to address issues related to scavengers, no official taskforce had been formed for environmental enforcement. He emphasized that the government was gathering evidence to identify those behind the illegal operations and track where the collected funds were deposited.
“There is no government-approved taskforce on environmental matters. We are actively investigating who set up this group and where the revenue they collected was paid,” he stated.
He warned the public against making payments to anyone claiming to be part of a government taskforce and confirmed that the governor had ordered the immediate recovery of all illegally collected funds.
