Abuja – November 6, 2024:

President Bola Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, initially scheduled for Wednesday, to a later date yet to be announced, in honour of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on Tuesday night.

Announcing the postponement, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, shared a statement titled, “Lagbaja: President Tinubu Postpones Federal Executive Council Meeting.”

Following the announcement at the Council Chamber, Vice President Kashim Shettima led council members in a minute’s silence for the late general. Shettima also informed ministers that they would visit President Tinubu’s residence for a condolence meeting, saying, “Let’s do so as a family; this is the proper thing to do.” Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, will coordinate the gathering.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Tinubu conveyed his condolences to Lt. General Lagbaja’s family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, commemorating the general’s dedication to the nation and service as Chief of Army Staff since June 19, 2023. The President also directed that flags be flown at half-mast across Nigeria for seven days in remembrance of Lagbaja.
