Nigeria and other African countries are expected to insist that Africa be allowed to continue using its hydrocarbon supplies for the continent’s development, despite efforts from advanced countries to phase out fossil fuel consumption.

The demand will be made by African petroleum and energy ministers during the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2022, also known as COP27, which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in November.

According to a statement by the Senior Adviser, Media and Communications, to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Horatius Egua, Nigeria will continue to fight for a comprehensive energy transformation schedule that would attract more investments for Africa.
