NCC gives MTN, Airtel, others two weeks to block lines not linked to NIN

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has given MTN, Airtel, Glo and other telecommunication operators in Nigeria two weeks to block all lines not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN).

The directive was disclosed by the Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media, Bashir Ahmad via his official twitter handle.

The tweet by Bashir Ahmad reads: “The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given telecommunications operators (MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9Mobile and others) in the country two weeks to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN), the Commission has said in a statement.”

Meanwhile, Director, Public Affairs, NCC, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, in a statement explained that the decision is to consolidate the achievements of last year’s SIM registration audit and improve performance within the sector.
