Tinubu: Fuel Subsidy Removal Secures Future Generations
President Bola Tinubu has defended his decision to remove fuel subsidies, stating that the move was necessary to safeguard the future of unborn generations. Speaking at the inauguration of the National Youth Congress Planning Committee at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s focus on youth empowerment and long-term economic stability.
Emphasizing the importance of securing a prosperous future, he noted that government policies were designed to create opportunities and encourage development. According to him, investment in infrastructure and economic growth would reduce the desire for emigration, commonly referred to as “Japa,” as more Nigerians would find viable opportunities within the country.
Reflecting on the economic challenges at the start of his administration, Tinubu acknowledged initial difficulties but expressed optimism about the country’s progress. He highlighted improvements in economic confidence, falling prices, and growing investor interest as signs that the economy had “turned the corner.”
The president urged young Nigerians to actively participate in shaping the nation’s future, emphasizing that his government was open to feedback and willing to implement suggestions that promote national prosperity.
During the event, Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande described the upcoming youth conference as a platform for engagement, ensuring young people’s ideas and contributions are integrated into governance. He affirmed the administration’s commitment to listening to and addressing youth concerns.
A member of the planning committee and Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, Samson Itodo, commended Tinubu for prioritizing youth inclusion in national development.
